Cebu construction sector booming |

Cebu's construction sector is optimistic that it will post an eight percent year-on-year growth in the next 12 years. "Cebu is enjoying a construction boom with the expansion [of several developments] and [the presence of] new players in (sectors such as) business process outsourcing, hotels, universities and road infrastructure," Cebu Contractors Association (CCA) president Peter Paul Dy Jr. said in a recent interview.
Dy noted that the economic crisis had not affected the construction sector in Cebu since the growth in tourism and business process outsourcing gave rise to more hotels and commercial spaces.
Residential housing and high-rise buildings are also areas of growth.
"Real estate in Cebu and the surrounding cities will experience a different economic landscape as the demand for residential housing will continue over the next few years," Dy said.
Dy said the growth in the industry was seen in the good turnout during the first PhilConstruct Visayas, a construction exhibit in Cebu that featured 300 booths representing products and services from 21 countries. |
